Reinhard Stubenrauch – Lady Hamilton – Floor Lamp – Stubenrauch Lichtobjekt – Germany – 1990

The Lady Hamilton floor lamp was designed and handmade by Reinhard Stubenrauch for Stubenrauch Lichtobjekte in Berlin, Germany, around 1990. Its sculptural stainless steel form resembles an angel and gives the lamp a strong presence in a room. Because Stubenrauch made each piece by hand, every sculpture has its own individual details.

Lady Hamilton floor lamp by Reinhard Stubenrauch

This is more than a conventional floor lamp. The stainless steel figure works as a lighting object and as a piece of sculpture. Its tall, narrow form can stand beside a sofa, in an entrance hall or next to a large artwork. In addition, the reflective metal catches the surrounding light and keeps the silhouette visually active.

The angel shape gives the design a poetic quality, while the industrial material adds a sharper late-20th-century character. As a result, the lamp can suit a modern interior as well as a collection of unusual German design objects. Its handmade origin also means that small differences are part of the object’s character.
