Full description & product details

This postmodern chess table from the 1980s combines a playful colour palette with bold geometric form. The yellow-and-green chessboard is integrated into the tabletop, while red, blue, yellow and green laminated surfaces continue across the sides and base. Because the designer and manufacturer are unknown, we describe the piece as Memphis-inspired rather than assigning it to a specific studio.

Postmodern chess table with Memphis-inspired character

The table has the expressive look associated with postmodern design of the 1980s. Its graphic pattern and unexpected geometry bring energy to a study, living room or design collection. In addition, the integrated chessboard makes the top useful as well as decorative. For background on the movement, you can read about the history of Memphis Milano.

An angular tabletop and asymmetrical base create a strong silhouette from every side. The chessboard forms part of the surface, so it feels like a designed element instead of a separate board placed on top. Moreover, the geometric pattern wraps around the edges and keeps the table visually interesting from close up.
