Louis Kalff – Junior – Orange – Table Lamp – Philips – 1950

The Louis Kalff Junior lamp is a Dutch mid-century design for Philips from the 1950s. Kalff gave it a distinctive mushroom-shaped shade with perforations, a curved stem and a compact round base. The warm orange finish makes the lamp sculptural even when it is switched off. When lit, the perforations allow light through for an atmospheric glow.

Original Philips lighting by Louis Kalff

The Junior model shows Kalff’s talent for combining a clear silhouette with practical light. The perforated shade controls the way the lamp glows, while the curved stem connects it to the sturdy base. As a result, it works well on a desk, side table or bedside surface where a compact vintage lamp is useful.

Louis Kalff joined Philips in 1925 and helped shape the company’s early design identity across products, graphics and architecture. Therefore, original lighting by Kalff remains attractive to collectors of Dutch design. This example offers that history together with a vivid orange colour and an unmistakable 1950s profile.
