IKEA – Mammut – Lamp – Yellow – Morten Kjelstrup & Allan Ostgaard – 1999

This yellow IKEA Mammut lamp was designed by Morten Kjelstrup and Allan Ostgaard and originally appeared in the 1999 IKEA catalogue. Its shape recalls a traditional lantern, but the playful colour and compact plastic form give it a distinctly late-1990s character. The lamp works well as a night light, mood light or small accent lamp.

The rounded lantern shape makes the lamp friendly and easy to place. Use it in a children’s room, on a bedside table or in a minimalist interior that benefits from a bright colour accent. In addition, the 2-metre cable gives you flexibility when choosing its position, while the on/off switch keeps everyday use simple.

The yellow finish is especially effective beside white furniture, natural wood or other playful IKEA designs. At the same time, the compact dimensions mean the lamp does not dominate a shelf or small table. It can also be displayed as a collectible example of late-1990s IKEA product design.
