IKEA – Mammut – Lamp – Purple – Morten Kjelstrup & Allan Ostgaard – 1999

This purple IKEA Mammut lamp was designed by Morten Kjelstrup and Allan Ostgaard and originally appeared in the 1999 IKEA catalogue. Its shape recalls a traditional lantern, while the playful purple colour gives it a distinctly late-1990s character. The compact lamp works well as a night light, mood light or small accent lamp.

The rounded lantern shape makes the lamp friendly and easy to place. Use it in a children’s room, on a bedside table or in a playful minimalist interior. In addition, the 2-metre cable gives you flexibility when choosing its position, and the on/off switch keeps everyday use simple.

The purple finish adds colour beside white furniture, natural wood or other cheerful IKEA designs. At the same time, the compact size means the lamp does not dominate a shelf or small table. It is also an appealing collectible example of late-1990s IKEA product design.
