IKEA – Jarpen – White – Lounge Chair and Table – Niels Gammelgaard – 1983

White IKEA Jarpen chair and table

This IKEA Jarpen chair and table set combines a white wire lounge chair with a matching table. Niels Gammelgaard designed the series for IKEA in the early 1980s, and this listing identifies the design with 1983. The open metal structure gives both pieces a distinctive, lightweight appearance.

The set includes one chair and one table. The table retains its original glass top, which provides a flat surface above the wire base. Together, the pieces create a coordinated corner for sitting, reading or enjoying a drink.

A matching vintage seating corner

The IKEA Jarpen chair and table share the same white finish and open construction. Both use a formed wire-sheet structure that gives the design its recognisable outline. Meanwhile, the glass tabletop allows the base to remain visible from above.

For example, place the set beside a floor lamp to create a reading area. Alternatively, combine it with a sofa as a separate lounge corner. Leave some space around the chair so the wire pattern can be seen from different angles.

The white finish pairs easily with pale walls and wooden floors. It also creates a clear contrast in a darker room. Before ordering, compare the measurements with your available space. The chair is 62 cm wide, while the table has a square 59 cm footprint. Allow enough clearance to reach the table comfortably.

Condition and dimensions

Both pieces are in very good vintage condition. The table has its original glass top, with light scratches on the glass. Please review the photographs to see the finish, wire structure and surface details of the actual set offered here.
