IKEA – Dess – Table Lamp – B9406 – Memphis Style – 1996

This IKEA Dess table lamp, model B9406, was first listed in the 1996 IKEA catalogue. The lamp uses brightly coloured plastic to create a clear Memphis style character. Its graphic colours and compact shape give it a playful postmodern presence without taking up much space.

The IKEA Dess table lamp works well on a desk, side table, shelf or bedside table. Its simple construction makes the object easy to place in a variety of interiors. Use it as a practical reading light or as a colourful accent next to books, ceramics and other vintage objects. The bright finish remains the main visual feature of the design.

1996 IKEA Memphis style lamp

The B9406 model belongs to the colourful side of 1990s IKEA design. The lamp does not rely on ornate decoration. Instead, it uses proportion, colour and a compact silhouette to create its effect. That direct approach makes the lamp easy to recognise and easy to combine with other postmodern pieces.

This IKEA Dess table lamp is in good condition. It measures 34 cm in height and 12 cm in width. The narrow footprint makes it suitable for smaller surfaces, while the height gives the lamp enough presence to work as a decorative object.
