Description

The IKEA ÅL Squiggle coat rack is a playful wall-mounted design by Anne Jonasson. IKEA included the blue coat rack in its 1994 catalogue. Its flowing, scribble-like shape turns everyday wall storage into a striking piece of Scandinavian design. The open outline keeps the wall visible, while the repeated bends create individual hanging points.

Rather than using a row of separate hooks, the ÅL coat rack draws one continuous, wave-like line across the wall. The sculptural profile gives coats and accessories a distinctive place while adding colour and movement to an interior. Its bright blue finish makes this vintage IKEA coat rack easy to notice in an entryway, bedroom or dressing area.

A long coat rack helps organise frequently used outerwear while keeping the design in view. The repeated bends offer practical hanging space, and the compact height keeps the piece visually light. As a result, the rack works as both storage and a graphic wall feature. The saturated blue colour pairs well with pale walls and natural wood, but it can also add a clear accent to a neutral hallway.
