Throwback Thursday – September 2025

This is a picture from the 1964 catalogue. The Gondell chair was designed by Danish architect Erik Wørts. Made from solid oak with a curved seat and backrest, it combined refined craftsmanship with modern simplicity long before IKEA became known for flatpack furniture. The Gondell’s sculptural frame and gentle proportions make it one of the most elegant early IKEA designs. Original examples are rare and highly valued among collectors today, showing Wørts’s timeless contribution to IKEA’s mid century legacy.
